Floaters are small groupings of cells inside the vitreous (clear part of the eye). It is usually characterised when you see small specks or clouds moving in your vision. It can often be seen when you look at a plain background. The clumps of cells are in the front of the eye that cast shadows over the back of the eye which is what causes dots, circles, lines or clouds to be seen on your vision.

Flashes are when the vitreous gel on the inside of your eye pulls or rubs on the retina. You may experience seeing what looks like flashes of lights or lightening streaks commonly referred to as 'seeing stars'. These flashes may be seen for weeks or months. If you notice a sudden increase in the flashes you see please visit see your ophthalmologist immediately.
