Dr Paul Hughes Returns to Wollongong

Wollongong Eye Specialists are delighted to announce that Dr Paul H Hughes has joined our team from 21st February 2018. Dr Hughes brings over 35 years of quality experience as an ophthalmologist to the Illawarra community. He is very well-respected in the field of ophthalmology and has played an instrumental role in improving ophthalmology services in Sydney for a very long time.

Dr Hughes' father Dr H L Hughes began his ophthalmology career in Wollongong before moving to Macquarie street in Sydney. Dr Hughes did his residency in Wollongong Hospital before moving to St Vincent's Hospital and following his father's footsteps, became an ophthalmic surgeon.

Dr Hughes attributes his initial interest in ophthalmology to his father, “I was always interested in hearing my father’s stories about his patients, the surgery he performed and, later, about his interest in ultrasound. He received world acclaim for his work in ophthalmic ultrasound, which is now a routine part of ophthalmology.”
