A/Prof. Smita Agarwal was recently invited to Singapore to speak at the Asia-Pacific (APAC) meeting, where she presented on the emerging benefits of the new Alcon Unity phacoemulsification system. As a respected cataract and refractive surgeon, she highlighted how the platform represents a significant step forward in cataract surgery, offering enhanced surgical control, improved patient outcomes, and a more streamlined operating experience for ophthalmologists across the region.

In her presentation, A/Prof. Agarwal discussed the superior efficiency of the Unity system during phacoemulsification, noting how its energy delivery and chamber stability contribute to smoother, more predictable cataract removal. She also emphasised the machine’s advancements in intelligent fluidics, which allow surgeons to operate at or near physiological intraocular pressure (IOP), enhancing safety, reducing turbulence, and improving overall surgical consistency.
