Wollongong Eye Specialists* dates back to 2007 when Medical Director and founding ophthalmologist and eye surgeon A/Professor Smita Agarwal returned from Melbourne after graduating and completing her fellowship.

Initially she began practicing at the Nowra location. In 2010 the opportunity arose to set up the Wollongong and the Warilla clinic locations and Wollongong Eye Specialists was officially born.

The decision was made to build a specialised clinic in both Warilla and Wollongong which led to three specialised clinics in three locations.

Now fourteen years on all three clinics provide a range of highly skilled and broadly specialised ophthalmologists allowing Wollongong Eye Specialists the ability to provide the people living in the Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Southern Highlands regions with comprehensive ophthalmology services in purpose built facilities, focussing on results driven and patient centred ophthalmic care.

In addition, the decision was made to extend the portfolio of ophthalmic services offered, and the Wollongong Refractive Laser Eye Institute was developed.

This is a specialised laser vision correction and refractive consulting and surgical clinic based within the Wollongong location, and led by A/Prof Smita Agarwal, who has particular experience and expertise in this area of ophthalmology.
